How to Make Pop Art Posters
Putting pop art effects on you photos would give it a comic book vintage poster appeal.
Prepare the image
Choose an image that you would like to turn into a vintage poster. Be careful when using images from online sources. Make sure that you are allowed to use these images. Some images are protected by copyright laws.
Open the picture using Photoshop or any photo-editing software you have. In editing you will be using your pen tool. It's important for you to know that there are a couple of path strokes that you can use for your pen tool. You can either simulate pressure or not.
Make a new layer over the image and trace the image. Click on the brush and set it on 1 pt. trace the image using the pen tool without simulating pressure. For fine details, change the brush setting to 3 pt. Simulate pressure when tracing these areas.
Paint the layers
Make a new layer below traced image. Choose an area of the picture that you want to start painting over. Select a color and use brush to color this part. You can set the brush tool between 10-20 pt, depending on the size that you're comfortable using.
Create new layers for each part that you are going to paint over.
Half-tone effect
Once you are done painting, hide all the layers except for the original image. In Photoshop, you can do this by simply clicking the eye icon on your layer palette located on the right side of your work area.
De-saturate the image and move this later on the very top of your layer list and unhide the other layers.
Final touches
Create a back ground for your image. Make sure it goes well with the colors you used to paint over your image. Once you're done making your back ground, don't forget to insert some text using different fascinating fonts and colors.
Texture
To complete your vintage poster, add paper texture effect on your image. Choose a subtle crumpled texture. You might need to play with the blend mode and opacity of the texture layer. The settings will depend on your artistic taste.
Don't forget to flatten the layers when you're done editing. If you plan to have this image printed out, copy the image to a new layer and set the image size to tabloid. Also adjust the settings to 300 dpi and use CMYK colors.
How To Make a Lomo Effect
Lomography also has a vintage vibe. Creating this effect on your photos is very easy. All you have to do is to use the vignette filter, experiment on your photos saturation and adjust the red and green settings of your image. When you're done adjusting these settings, add texture and save your image.
Creating a vintage effect on your photos and posters are really very easy, but nothing beats the feel of having an original vintage poster.
